Today’s Gospel Reading: Mark 13:9-13 - The Lord said to his disciples, "Take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them. And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say; but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death; and you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved."
Day two of the Triodion and the Church is already reminding
us of what is to come if we are genuine followers of Jesus Christ. We cannot
escape the trials and persecution of the world, so best look ahead to Great
Lent and prepare to dedicate our souls to God in everything we do. And WHEN,
not if but when, we are mocked for taking our faith too seriously because we
refuse to go to a party during Great Lent, or WHEN our friends decide it is
more important to go drinking rather than spend time with us because we are
spending more time in prayer, or WHEN our coworkers don’t understand why we can’t
get together for drinks Wednesday after work because we will be in
Church....just remember “But who endures to the end will be saved.” Get ready
for Great Lent.
